Blog Reflection # 5

Reflecting on this semester, consider what you have learned about integrating technology into the classroom. Your blog should cite specific examples to support your learning. In your discussion you might consider but are not limited to the following ideas: a) using Word, Excel, PPT, Concept Mapping, DataBases, and/or Video as instructional tools, b) advantages and disadvantages of integrating technology, c) a particular piece of technology and how it is perfect for a particular topic, student, or stiatuion, d) which integration activity you are most proud of creating, e) which integration activity you would do differently next time around, f) how integrating technology facilitiates a learner-cnetered (constructivist) classroom, g) any other ideas realted to integrating technology into the classroom.
Over all this class offered a fun new way to learn new idea's and to incorporate technology into our way of teaching. As becoming a teacher i have recieved important information to how different students learn and as using technology i have gathered many new techniques. The case studies was a good project to work on because it showed how other teachers taught their class and it showed how her students thought of the material. Different students learn many ways and one of the cool things were the smart board and how they can actually participate on the board. A good example for a project on the smart board was the concept mapping for kidspiration. This program can let students interact and play games on the board. Another activity was power points. Students were able to click on the links and it would take them to another slide or to a web site to gather more information on the topic. The advantages of technology is it offers new ways of learning because some students become bored and it offers a fresh way of thinking. Some students learn better with computers. Working with computers gives students a chance to experiment with how to work with it and look through the programs. some students do not have a computer and home and some will miss out on the opportunity to know how to operate it. Some disadvantages will be if students get frustrated on how work on it. The students might mess around on it. The computer also might freeze up or the internet might be down while teaching a lecture. Throughout this class my favorite assignment was making the video and editing it the program we used made it easy to understand what we needed to do. The final cut should be amazing. Having technology in the classroom makes the class a better learning enviroment because there is so much to learn about technology.

Blog reflection #4

After reflecting on the spreadsheets and databases you created, reviewing the materials on the Spreadsheets & Databases Wiki pages (at the bottom) answer these questions by providing at least two specific examples for how students would use databases and two specfic examples for how students would use spreadsheets in your future classroom. "Why should students use Databases and Spreadsheets in the classroom?"

After working on the Spreadsheets and Databases, I really enjoyed the spreadsheets more and feel that is is more suitable for younger children to understand. For Spreadsheets, the students can use this program for a number of things. students can use it to see how many students have the same birthday or who likes certain types of food. The spreadsheet i used was for songs and they students could count the number of beats in each song. Using the database was a good experience and it shows good examples on how to make diffrents charts and graphs. The database is better for older children maybe for first or second grade because it concentrates more on the graphing part. Students can use the database for basically anything i used it for animals. students can look up information on about what they eat, where they live, or how they breathe. Students should use Database's and spreadsheets in the classroom because it gives them a chance to become familiar with how to use the programs so that way later in education or at a job they will be able to know what to do. The programs also enable the students to be able to read information on charts and graphs.

Reflection on exploring new applications

After exploring Games, Simulations & Virtual Reality in class on 2/11/2008 and exploring GeoTechnologies (GPS, GIS, Google Earth & Maps, etc.) in class on 2/13/2008, followed by an indepth look at a specfic application that could relate to your content area and level, reflect specificially on how you might use an emerging technology in your future classroom.

In class i explored the computer games and the Geo Technologies. I liked playing around with the geo technologies better because it was facinating to look up all the information it provided. it showed where houses and businesses are located within a click of a button. The Google Earth was the best because you could put a destination in and it would show you exactly where it was and show pictures and even tell facts about the place. In the future when i teach my class i will definatly use the Google Earth because if we want to see where some city or country is we can show the students visually where it is and show pictures and facts about it.

Blog Reflection #2

Reflecting on the Newsletter you created, consider how students would be able to use Word to "construct meaning" for the specific standards your newsletter assignment addressed. Your reflection should mention the specific standards you covered with your newsletter activity.

When i was working on the newsletter i was demonstrating how i wanted my students to do it. My teaching goal is to have all the students understand what they learned and to show me by as a class to do the newsletter. I want to split the class in half and have one half work with me and the other half with a student teacher. I would do this because my teaching level is for first grade students and they will need some help with the computer. The indicators are to 1.understand the meaning of new words from context of conversations. The use of pictures that accompany text or the use of concrete objects. 2. Recognize and demonstrate an understanding of enviromental print. 3.Name items in common categories. 4. Demonstrate or orally communicate position and directional words.5. Determine the meaning of unknown words with assistance or cues from an adult.

What do I know, understand, and feel about integrating technology in the classroom?

Integrating technology in the classroom seems more important now than ever before. I feel technology is a great tool to interest students more and have them learn more about operating a computer. The computer would also be a great tool for the teachers because they can look things up online such as lesson plans in just a couple of seconds. The internet also allows to have virtual teaching and video confrencing to student who are unable to come to class. This is great for students who learn in diffrent ways technology may be something that their comfortable with and will understand better than other methods used.
